The Varsity boys football team traveled all the way to Montrose to play Montrose high school. The trip was a long 5-hour drive. They rented two charter buses and headed up there. Halfway the team stopped at Western State up in Gunnison for some lunch and a walkthrough of the game out on the fields. The team lost the game with a final score of 49-27. After the game, everyone got pizza and Gatorade and hopped back onto the bus for the long drive back. The team didn’t get back to the school until 2:45 am. The end of the season has come upon us and the team ended with a record of 8-2. The team is trying to tweak their skills before playoffs
“We are focused on fine tuning our skills. Making sure that we are striving to peak in all three phases of the game at the right time. Most importantly, we are focused on playing for each other and understanding that this is a family that everyone will remember for the rest of their lives, and that memory will be whatever we decide to make it,” explains Coach Johnson.
Their last game of the season was against Ponderosa and they finished the season with a bang. Senior night this year was very cold as it fell on Halloween. There were 21 seniors this year that were recognized and got to walk down the field with their family. The seniors will be missed next season but they have done the team well.
“We are losing a bunch of studs. Not only solid football players, but incredible young men. We will definitely miss them. Luckily, we have built the program to develop our younger players and push them to improve every day, week, month, year. We have a ton of promising young talent that will have big shoes to fill, but shoes they are capable of filling nonetheless,” explains Coach Johnson.
