After an emotional loss in the season opener to the Warriors in the annual rivalry battle, the Heritage boy’s basketball team rallied to a 53-46 win against Rocky Mountain. Despite the boys lack of age and experience the team is expecting nothing but a winning season.

Football season comes to a close

The Heritage eagles football season has come to an end and they finished with the record of 5-5. The team clinched the playoffs yet again this year but fell to Mountain Range in a dramatic loss, losing by only 4 points (24-20).

A new love for BMX

Connor Spaulding ’17 has been riding BMX for almost five years.“It’s been about 4 years since I’ve started but I have been riding competitively for only a year now,” says Spaulding.

BMX, the competitive motor bike sport, is something that was introduced to Spaulding by a friend.

Boys soccer takes control

Through hard work, fast play, and focus, the Varsity Boys Soccer team led by seniors Josh Peil, Luke Ryan, and Conrad d’Leeuwen are determined to work as hard as it takes to do well in playoffs.
“This year I expect that we can make a run in the playoffs and hopefully get back to the state championship game,” says Peil, who has been playing since the age of eight.

Gymnastics compete for Heritage

The gymnastics team this year has made major changes by competing with ten girls and one boy.

Coaches Karen Griebel and Megan Kling lead the team and hold practices every day. For these gymnasts, they face endurance, fear and commitment. Kaela Schandle ’16 has been on the gymnastics team before, this being her second year. One of Schandle’s favorite things about the team is the bonding and experience. This is because it benefits in competitions having to trust and help each other at every stage.

Forever Unified

For three years now the Denver Nuggets have made an annual visit to watch a Unified Eagles Basketball game. This tradition started when former Nuggets player Chris “Birdman” Andersen, now with the Miami Heat came in 2011. Ever since then the Nuggets are eager to come back to Heritage and attend a Unified game. Last year players from the team included Kenneth Faired, Timofey Mosgov, Kosta Koufous, and Corey Brewer.

“We want to come back every year if we can, it’s one of the first events we schedule,” says Doug Fulton, Denver Nuggets Community Relations Coordinator. “It’s everything that’s right about sports.”

Varsity boys tip off

It’s that time of year again. Winter sports are in full swing, including boys’ varsity basketball. From now until February, the boys will practice, strategize and work hard to win games in hopes of making it to the playoffs.

The Eagles took on rival Arapahoe in their first game of the season. While they played hard, they were not able to pull out a win. The final score was 46 to 88.

Dancing the night away

The exhilarating, electrifying pre-performance jitters of walking out onto the hardwood floor, judges staring, hearts beating, palms sweating, minds racing; these are the typical feelings of the Heritage High School Varsity Belles and JV Poms dance teams just moments before they perform their routines.

“You can’t hear anything but the sound of your heartbeat and the people screaming,” Anna Gerze ‘14 describes.
